We have just received a very nice email from the owners of the Rattray Head Lighthouse Compound advising that they are putting their lighthouse buildings up for sale. Rattray Head Lighthouse Station Hostel
Prior to being placed for sale in May 2015, this lighthouse compound has been operated as a B&B plus hostel accommodation. A place to rest and relax among huge dunes and 11 mile beach. This former lighthouse shore station is the most easterly part of mainland Scotland opposite the northern tip of Denmark. This is one of the driest, sunniest areas of Scotland and many hours can be spent exploring the shipwrecks and village and chapel ruins.
The main accommodation block was built of granite in 1892.
Situated by the North Sea Trail footpath and the Aberdeenshire Coastal Trail which follow the North Sea coastline. The North Sea Cycle Route (Sustrans Route 1) is only 17 miles away where it passes through this historic area full of stone circles, castle ruins and golf courses.
