For Sale a fabulous piece of history, a spectacular building with a wide variety of uses

History

In 1858, William Furze built a new Steam Brewery on the site of his malting house using local well water which was ideal for beer making.

Furze also made bricks locally to build his brewery and also his house which he called Mount View.

The Brewery became one of the three main employers for the village.

William Furze died in 1890.

In 1903, Uffculme Brewery was sold along with 22 public houses, and the Mount View Estate of 37 acres including cottages. By this time the main production was malted barley and aeriated water. It was last used as a brewery in 1917.

Between the Wars, the main building became a factory for cider and jam making and subsequently it was used as a toy factory, for furniture production and for a miracle fertiliser.

Current Owner

When the present owner purchased the property in 1994, it had last been used as a community centre for the village.

The present owner purchased the GRADE 2 listed property to run his antique business from. It has planning permission for an antique centre and trade warehouse and for B1 light industrial use.

In 2002 a two bedroom apartment conversion with roof garden / terrace was added to the top floor.

Current Penthouse

A fabulous 2 bedroom penthouse with roof terrace and views to die for !!  The roof area also has permission to create a lovely studio from the old lift room.  That quiet retreat to plan what not to do tomorrow..
